Environmental Resource for LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada)
For over 6 years CEA has been offering environmental workshops and sessions for LINC classes to meet the LINC curriculum needs for imparting environmental education. CEA has created two environmental education resources for LINC-one on home energy and the other on water conservation.
Presently, with support from Environment Canada and Health Canada, we are working to create the third resource in the series that will discuss the connection between air quality and health. We are one of the few, if not the only, environmental sector partners delivering curriculum specific programs to LINC. Please contact us at 905. 463. 9941 for further information regarding this project.
Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) Community Outreach Project
Since 2007, CEA has been actively involved in promoting the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) within Peel. The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) is a health protection tool developed by Environment and Health Canada. It uses a simple 10-point scale that helps us understand how the air quality around us affects our health. The higher the AQHI number, the higher the health risks. By knowing our number, we can make better decisions for our lungs. For example, if the number is high, we can reduce or reschedule our outdoor activities for that day.
AQHI information materials are available in various languages. We also offer AQHI workshops to various groups and agencies looking to provide their clients such health education information. If you are interested in learning more about AQHI and looking for a workshop for a target audience, please contact us at 905. 463. 9941.
